The Edlesborough Parish Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Lin Sargeant as the new Parish Clerk from 1 July 2004. The Parish Council would like to thank all those who applied for the position; the calibre was extremely high and made the job of choosing from the candidates a very difficult one.

Lin Sargeant has lived in Northall for many years and knows the area well. Although Lin has not been a Parish Clerk before she will draw on her experience in a business environment and her local knowledge. I know Lin will enjoy the challenge ahead.

In the past couple of years the Parish Council has undergone a lot of changes due to stricter government controls, greater legislation and a greater workload being placed on the Parish Council as well as the day to day running and housekeeping of the Parish.

In the past year and a half the Parish Council has realised that there is a lot more work to do and therefore the number of hours have increased. However, it is still a part-time position. When contacting the Clerk please bear this in mind.

I ask that unless it is an emergency you limit telephone calls to between 8.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday. If Lin is not able to take your call please leave a message and she will contact you as soon as she can. Lin can also be contacted by e-mail or a message on the Website or by letter.

The Parish Council meets on the third Thursday of every month, except August, in the Edlesborough Memorial Hall.

The General Purposes Committee generally meets on the first Wednesday of every month, except August, in various venues around the villages.

Details are on the Notice Boards and on the Website. Parishioners are welcome to attend and speak to Councillors.

What Is The Parish Council and What Does It Do?

The Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government and is responsible for the administration of various local amenities and services including street lighting, bus shelters, litter bins, Edlesborough Cemetery, Edlesborough Village Green (including the Pavilion and play equipment), Edlesborough Memorial Hall and Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall allotments. The Parish Council is also consulted on many other issues administered by Aylesbury Vale District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council including all planning applications.

The Clerk is the person to whom all correspondence is addressed, whether by a member of the parish or other authority, and as such will usually be the first point of contact between the Parish Council and the rest of the world. The Clerk, with the support of other council employees, maintains the records, pays invoices and maintains accounts, conducts correspondence, makes telephone calls and meets with officers of other authorities.
